Curated by In-Between Design Platform, Commons & Communities selection from Turkey is bringing ideas challenging the notion of architecture today. The projects are re-thinking architecture as a tool for improving social wellbeing, encouraging community building, triggering empathy and emotional intelligence, raising societal awareness over local culture and reflecting how solidarity can play a key role to reclaim the public space.
Curation of In-Between Design Platform is focusing on the “co-” culture of our time which is responding to tendencies, raising from the need to have multiple voices in decision making processes. The definition of “end user” is changing. The user is being included at the beginning of the design process and becoming an active profile who actually completes the design. This democratic approach is shifting the perception from “design for” to “design with”.
Today, an architect is also becoming a consultant and facilitator who is creating cross-disciplinary dialogues which can help communities to build spaces they want to live in.
Based on the changing global dynamics stated below, the projects selected for Commons & Communities Turkey are reflecting architecture as a powerful tool transforming the society collectively by respecting all living organisms in our planet.
